Daycare Day One: The Report Card

Dear Laney,

When I picked you up from the Super Awesome Play Place yesterday, I asked your teacher how your first day went.

She said that you had a great time, and were "a very sweet baby."

In fact, she said the only time you were any trouble was at lunch. See, Miss Tracy makes delicious homemade meals for you every day in her little kitchen. Yesterday, you had banana bread and sliced oranges for breakfast and ham and hash browns for lunch. When your dad heard that, I think he wanted me to enroll him in daycare, too.

Anyway, Tracy has a safety rule that while she's putting the lunch together, the kids have to stay back on the carpeted area...you know, so no one gets near a hot oven, etc. This rule did not sit well with you at all. Tracy says that all day long, she would only have to tell you "no" once, and you'd get it, but when it came to staying out of the kitchen, she had to tell you ten or eleven times and you still acted like she was speaking Farsi.

What Tracy didn't know was that at home, you insist on mixing your own sauce for your macaroni and cheese...

And, sure, that other little girl in your group can speak tons of words and talk about Dora the Explorer, but can she use a step stool to reach the fruit bowl so she can peel oranges with her teeth? I think not.

Maybe instead of sending you to day care, we should have gotten you some shift work at Denny's.

Love,
Mom
